What shed removal involves

Shed removal costs in the Twin Cities typically run anywhere from a few hundred dollars to well over a thousand, depending on the shed's size, what it's built from, how it's anchored, and how much junk is still inside. That wide range is the honest answer, and any company quoting you a flat price before they've seen the thing is guessing. Junk Genius handles shed removal and full teardown across the metro, and we give you a real number before a single board comes down. Call (612) 444-5865 and we'll tell you exactly what you're looking at.

The process is straightforward but physical: we dismantle the structure panel by panel or section by section depending on construction, pull any concrete footings if accessible, bag or bundle the debris, and haul it all away in our truck. You don't need to rent a dumpster, bag a single nail, or make a single dump run. What drives cost up is usually a heavier structure (metal or thick cedar framing costs more labor than thin pine), a difficult access point, or a floor that's bolted into a concrete slab. What drives it down is a smaller footprint and straightforward timber framing. Sheds with decades of stored junk inside get priced separately for the contents. Every job is different, contact Junk Genius - Minneapolis for an accurate estimate.

How It Works

Three Steps From Eyesore to Open Yard

  1. 01

    Free On-Site Look

We assess the shed's size, material, anchor points, and access before we quote anything. You get a firm number upfront, no surprises on the final bill.

  2. 02

    Teardown and Load-Out

Our crew dismantles the structure systematically and loads every board, panel, screw, and piece of roofing into the truck. We don't leave you with a pile to deal with.

  3. 03

    Site Cleanup

Once the structure is gone, we rake the footprint, pull any obvious hardware, and leave the ground ready for grass seed, a patio, or whatever you've got planned next.

What We Handle

Shed Types We Remove and What to Expect

Not every shed comes down the same way: here's what actually affects the job.

Wood Frame Sheds

The most common type in older Twin Cities yards. Timber frames come apart quickly if the wood isn't rotted through. Rotted lumber actually slows teardown because boards break unpredictably, we factor that in before we quote.

Metal and Steel Sheds

Lighter than they look but have sharp edges and awkward panel shapes. Takes longer to break down safely, but every panel gets loaded and nothing gets left behind.

Vinyl and Resin Sheds

The big box store snap-together style. Usually the easiest to disassemble, though the plastic can be brittle in cold weather. We've done plenty of these in Minnesota winters.

Sheds with Concrete Floors

We remove the structure. The slab itself is a separate conversation. If you need the concrete broken out too, ask us when you call and we'll tell you honestly whether that's in scope or whether you'd be better served by a different contractor.

Sheds Packed with Junk

The structure and the contents are priced together. If there's a lawnmower, old fertilizer bags, broken tools, or a pile of who-knows-what inside, just tell us upfront so we can quote the full job. We handle the household junk removal alongside the teardown.

Permit Questions

Do You Need a Permit to Remove a Shed?

In most Twin Cities municipalities, removing an existing shed does not require a demolition permit, but it depends on the city and, in some cases, the shed's square footage. Structures over a certain size that were permitted when built may require a removal permit to close out that permit on record. Our honest advice: call your city's building department before we show up. It's usually a five-minute call. We're not permit agents and we won't tell you that you definitely don't need one, because the rules vary by city and we'd rather you confirm than have a neighbor report an unpermitted teardown. What we can tell you is that the actual removal work, the physical teardown and haul, is entirely our job.

Why Call Us

What Separates a Professional Teardown from a Weekend Project

about 15 years of Hauling in This Market

Mike Reimann started Junk Genius about 15 years ago. The crew has taken down sheds in Linden Hills, Northeast, South Minneapolis, and every suburb in the metro. We know what local soil does to footings and what Minnesota winters do to wood framing.

1,987 Five-Star Reviews and a License Number

MN License #3772090-2 is on every truck. You're not calling a franchise call center. You're calling a local crew with a 4.9-star average across nearly two thousand real jobs. That's not a marketing line; it's a checkable fact.

We Haul It. You Forget It.

When we leave, the shed is gone. The debris is gone. You don't follow up on a dumpster pickup or bag the leftover roofing felt. If you'd rather handle the project at your own pace, we also offer dumpster rental, but most shed jobs are faster with a crew.

Responsible Disposal

Where Your Old Shed Actually Goes

We don't just dump everything in a landfill and call it done. We donate and recycle as much as we can whenever possible. For sheds, that typically means usable lumber gets sorted separately, metal panels go to scrap recycling, and only the genuinely non-recoverable material ends up in a waste stream. If your shed has usable items stored inside, tools, hardware, anything in decent shape, tell us and we'll flag them before the load goes in the truck. We keep our waste management approach the same whether the job is a single sofa or a full structure teardown.

Common Questions

Shed Removal: Answered Straight

How much does it cost to remove a shed?
Shed removal in the Twin Cities metro typically runs somewhere between $300 and $1,500 or more, depending on the shed's size, construction type, how it's anchored, and whether there's material inside. A small resin shed with nothing in it comes down fast. A large cedar-framed shed bolted to a concrete pad with twenty years of junk inside is a different job entirely. Every job is different, contact Junk Genius - Minneapolis for an accurate estimate.
How much would it cost to get a shed removed if it's already falling apart?
Rotted or collapsed sheds can actually take longer than sound ones. Deteriorated wood breaks unpredictably, which slows teardown and creates more debris to manage. We don't charge you more just because it looks worse, but we do price based on the actual labor involved. Send us photos or let us do a quick walkthrough. That's the only way to quote it accurately.
How can I get rid of my old shed without renting equipment?
Call us. Seriously. DIY shed demolition requires at minimum a circular saw or reciprocating saw, pry bars, a dumpster rental or multiple truck loads to the dump, and at least one full day of physical work. We bring the tools, the truck, and the crew. You don't touch a thing. It's faster, and you're not spending a Saturday doing demo work.
Do I need a permit to remove an old shed?
Most cities in the Twin Cities metro don't require a permit for standard shed removal, but it depends on your specific municipality and the shed's original permit status. Structures that were permitted when built sometimes need that permit formally closed. We'd recommend a quick call to your city's building department before scheduling. We handle the physical removal. The permit question is between you and your city.
Can you remove a shed that has things stored inside it?
Yes. We price the structure and the contents together when you call. Tell us upfront what's inside so we can quote the full scope. If there are items worth donating or recycling, we sort those separately. Things we can't take include hazardous materials like paint, propane tanks, or certain chemicals. If any of those are in there, we'll tell you how to handle them before we start.
Do you remove the concrete pad underneath the shed?
The structure, yes. The concrete slab is a separate question and depends on the job. Concrete removal is labor-intensive and typically requires different equipment. Ask us when you call. If it's in scope for your job, we'll tell you. If it's not something we'd handle efficiently, we'll tell you that too rather than quote you on something we can't deliver.

How can I get rid of my old shed?
DIY shed demolition requires a saw, pry bars, a way to haul the debris, and a full day of physical work at minimum. Calling Junk Genius is faster: we bring tools, labor, and a truck, tear the structure down, and haul every piece away. You don't rent equipment, make dump runs, or spend the weekend on demo. Call (612) 444-5865 to schedule.
Can you remove a shed that still has things stored inside it?
Yes. We price the structure and the contents together. Tell us what's inside when you call so we can quote the full job accurately. Hazardous materials like paint, propane tanks, or certain chemicals are excluded. We'll let you know how to handle those before we start if any come up.
Do you remove the concrete slab underneath the shed?
The structure, yes. The concrete slab is a case-by-case conversation, it requires different equipment and significantly more labor than a standard teardown. Ask us when you call and we'll tell you honestly whether it's in scope or whether you'd be better served by a concrete removal specialist.
How long does shed removal usually take?
A standard wood-frame or resin shed typically takes one to three hours from start to cleanup. Larger structures, heavy materials like thick cedar framing, or sheds with full interiors can take a half day. We'll give you a time estimate when we quote the job so you know what to expect.
